Hastings Omondi

Hastings Omondi enrolled at Miriu in 2006 after his family had sold all the assets they had in order to meet the admission requirements. The first two terms in Miriu were difficult as his parents could not raise the school fee for me to attend classes regularly. Once he joined the sponsorship scheme and his fees were paid promptly his academic performance improved. A grade B at KCSE secured admission at Maseno University in 2011. The support of Zest for Life - university education fees and his basic needs - meant that he was able to concentrate on his studies. In December 2015, he graduating with a First Class Honours BA in Urban and Regional Planning. In 2016 he was awarded a scholarship for a Masters Exchange Program in Design for Sustainable Development at Chalmers University, Sweden. Back at Maseno University he completed a Masters in Urban Management. Since graduation, Hastings has been participating as an assistant planner in urban planning assignments in Western Kenya and was involved in preparation of housing policy for Kisumu County.
